Summary
Self-hosting personal services gives you direct control over your data, increases privacy, and protects against corporate surveillance or loss of access due to account lockouts.
Running your own servers enables full customization and digital sovereignty but demands technical expertise and potentially higher upfront hardware costs. Recommended services to self-host include calendar, contacts, email, smart home controls, RSS aggregation, and location tracking.
