NoLongerEvil-Thermostat is an experimental project that revives bricked Nest Generation 1 and 2 thermostats by flashing custom firmware which redirects server communication away from Google to the NoLongerEvil platform.

The process involves loading a modified bootloader and kernel to enable independent device control while maintaining compatibility with the device's original functions. The project is open source and offers a web-based dashboard for thermostat management, but the firmware remains in testing and is not recommended for vital heating or cooling systems.
